Karnataka Students Assault Teacher, Drop Dustbin On Head. Probe Underway

The incident received the flak of the village members and they also demanded action against the students.

Chennai: A video showing school students assaulting a teacher in a classroom and dropping a dustbin on his head in Karnataka has created a storm on social media. Following the incident, the Education Ministry has ordered a probe into the incident on Friday.

The Primary and Secondary Education Minister BC Nagesh said, "The assault on a teacher by the students at a school in Channagiri taluk of Davanagere district is unacceptable. The Education Department and police are probing into the issue."

"I have instructed the department to take necessary action against the students involved in the incident," he said. The Minister then assured that the government will always stand with the teachers.

In a viral video from the school on December 3, several students were seen assaulting a Hindi teacher Praksh and putting a dustbin on his head. However, the teacher did not file any complaint with regards to the incident and the issue came to light only after the video went viral on social media. 

The incident received the flak of the village members and the villagers too demanded action against the students.

Following this, MLA Madal Virupakshappa, Deputy Director of Public Instruction Department GR Thippeswwamy immediately reached the school to interact with the teachers. They also made the students give in writing that they will not involve in such an incident again.

However, the teacher alleged that the students created a nuisance after he chided them for using gutka packets and littering them in the classrooms.
