Both the incidents took place at Bodagurki village in Bangapet Taluk on Tuesday. The father of the girl has been arrested.

New Delhi: A man allegedly strangled his 20-year-old daughter to death for being in love with a youth from a different caste in Kolar district of Karnataka, news agency PTI reported. Upset over her death, her 24-year-old lover allegedly died by suicide by jumping in front of a train, police said. Both the incidents took place at Bodagurki village in Bangapet Taluk on Tuesday. The father of the girl has been arrested.

According to a report by NDTV, Krishnamurti, a resident of Bangarpet in Kolar Gold Fields (KGF), used to have frequent fights with his daughter Kirti as she wanted to marry her lover Gangadhar, who belonged to a different caste.

On Tuesday morning, Krishnamurti tried to convince Kirti to end her relationship with Gangadhar, and this led to a fight between the father and daughter, a police official said.

The fight escalated and Krishnamurti strangled Kirti to death, and hung her body from a fan to pass off the killing as a suicide, police said.

Gangadhar, who works as a mason, found out about his lover’s death and distraught over the incident, went to the railway tracks and jumped in front of a train, dying on the spot.

"Krishnamurti has been arrested for murder under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code." NDTV quoted KGF Superintendent of Police K Dharni Devi as saying.

In another incident, a man in Karnataka shot himself to death at the top of a hillock in Ubaradka in Dakshina Kannada district, PTI reported.

The deceased has been identified as Ravi, who was working at a household in Belrampady of Ubaradka. Ravi walked up the hillock in Belrampady on Tuesday night and allegedly shot himself in the head, police said.

Preliminary probe shows it is a case of suicide, police said, adding that the reason for the extreme step is yet to be ascertained.
