Meanwhile, Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai has called for an all-party meeting to discuss the Karnataka-Maharashtra border issue.
Bommai said that an all-party meeting will be convened to discuss the Maharashtra government's intentions to resolve the border row amicably through talks, and other important issues.
As per IANS, he said: "The border dispute is over but Maharashtra is raking up this row..."
Bommai also said that the Karnataka government is prepared for the legal battle which is currently in the Supreme Court.
Recently, the issue started after Karnataka CM Bommai said that some of the villages are facing water crisis in Sangli district of Maharashtra and they should merge with the state.
However, the statement received flak from Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde and Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis.
On the statement, both leaders said that the villagers did not seek for a merger with Karnataka. They also said that there's no need for a question on amalgamation.
On the other hand, Karnataka CM Bommai called Fadnavis's statement 'provocative'. He said that their demand was only to include Kannada-speaking areas of Maharashtra like Solapur to Karnataka.
The state of Maharashtra was formed in 1960. From the time it was formed till now, the state has been facing several disputes with Karnataka. The issues are ongoing mainly over the status of Belgavi and other Marathi-speaking villages in Karnataka.
It may be noted that both the state are ruled by BJP.
