Karnataka CM Bommai Announces Rs 15 Lakh Compensation For Kin Of Leopard Attack Victims
The announcement by the CM came a day after a woman was killed in a leopard attack in Mysuru.
Chennai: After a woman was killed in a leopard attack in Mysuru on Friday, Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai ordered a compensation of Rs 15 lakh to each of the families of those killed in leopard attacks.
On Saturday, CM Basavaraj Bommai said, “Rs 15 lakhs compensation will be given to each of the families of those killed in leopard attacks. A special team has been formed to catch leopards who have left the forest and prevent leopard attacks.”

The announcement by the CM came a day after a woman was killed in a leopard attack in Mysuru. On Thursday, Meghana (23) was killed in an attack by a leopard in the backyard of her home at S Kebbehundi of T Narasipura taluk.
Talking to Hindustan Times, Meghana's uncle said that when they were watching television at 6.30 pm on Thursday Meghana went to her backyard to take clothes. Suddenly, her uncle said that they heard her screams and rushed for help. However, they saw the leopard attacking her. When they screamed, the leopard left her and escaped the place.
The family members immediately rushed her to the hospital. However, she died due to injuries.
Following this, the family members refused to take away the body and staged a protest. They demanded the government to provide a compensation of Rs 50 lakh.
Later, the Forest Department held talks with the family members and announced a compensation of Rs 7.5 lakh. They also assured a monthly pension of Rs 2,000 to the family for five years and a contractual government job to her kin.

Earlier, on October 31, a student of Maharaja's College in Mysuru died in a leopard attack.
In another incident, a leopard attacked three people on a busy road in Mysuru in early November.
