Karnataka: Bomb Hoax At Raj Bhavan Sparks Panic, Bengaluru Police Launches Probe

A miscreant has made the call from Bidar, the northern district of Karnataka at the Maharashtra border, according to Raj Bhavan sources.

Karnataka police were thrown into chaos by a false bomb threat call on Monday night. An anonymous midnight call to the police control room claimed a bomb was planted inside Bengaluru's Raj Bhavan premises and was set to explode soon. The police promptly conducted a thorough search of the Governor's official residence and discovered the call to be a hoax.

According to Raj Bhavan sources, a miscreant has made the call from Bidar, the northern district of Karnataka at the Maharashtra border.

"Investigations revealed that the call was made from Bidar. After the call, the phone was switched off. Police are trying to trace the caller," a Raj Bhavan official told PTI on Tuesday.

The Governor is currently in Belagavi, he said.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police (West division) in Bengaluru, Shekhar H Tekkannavar, reported that the NIA control room received an anonymous call at midnight, prompting alertness from the Bengaluru police.

"Following an extensive search, no evidence was discovered. The matter is under investigation, and no arrests have been made thus far," he stated.

Early this month, fifteen schools in Bengaluru received bomb threats through email. The email said that explosives were present on the school premises. Karnataka Home Minister Dr G Parameshwara said, "At present, we have received information about 15 schools where threatening e-mails have been received."

"Last year also such threats were received. We cannot take any risk, we are inspecting the schools and are taking all precautionary measures in schools. We will take strict action against those who are making threatening calls. We are looking into all aspects," the Minister said.

The police sent bomb disposal squads and anti-sabotage check teams.

After the search, it was found to be a hoax threat.
