American Airlines Flight En-Route To Delhi Diverted After Bomb Threat

American Airlines flight AA 292 from New York to New Delhi was diverted to Rome after a bomb threat. The aircraft landed in Rome for a security inspection and will resume its journey after clearance.

An American Airlines flight traveling from New York to New Delhi was redirected to Rome on Sunday after a bomb threat was received via email, authorities said.

Flight AA 292, managed by a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, left John F Kennedy International Airport on February 22. The aircraft, which had already crossed the Caspian Sea, was redirected back toward Europe after the threat was detected.

Authorities instructed the flight to land at Rome's airport for a detailed security inspection. According to sources cited by India Today TV, the plane will resume its journey to Delhi only after receiving clearance from security officials in Rome.

American Airlines confirmed in its official statement about the incident and said, "AA 292, operating from New York to Delhi, has been diverted to Rome due to a potential security threat onboard."

The airline further added that it is closely communicating with local authorities to assess the situation. And, no immediate information of disturbances among passengers and crew has surfaced, and security protocols are being followed striclty.

IndiGo's Goa-Mumbai Flight Gets Bomb Threat

An IndiGo flight en route to Mumbai from Goa received a bomb threat on Monday evening (January 13). However, following the security checks, the bomb threat turned out to be a hoax.

As per the airline spokesperson's statement released on Tuesday (January 14), flight 6E 5101 was taken to an isolation bay follwoing its landing at the Mumbai airport. All the passengers were evacuated safely, the statement read, as reported by news agency PTI. "All standard operating procedures were followed and the aircraft was positioned back to the terminal post clearance from relevant authorities," the spokesperson said.

The airline has not revealed the number of passengers on board. According to an airport official on Tuesday, a note was found on the plane containing a message about the alleged bomb threat.  

In response to the incident, a full emergency was declared at Mumbai airport around 10:30 PM. The alert was lifted an hour later at 11:30 PM. Authorities swiftly responded, conducting thorough inspections to assess the credibility of the threat, which was later confirmed to be a hoax. Normal airport operations resumed, allowing passengers to continue their journeys as scheduled.
