Hubballi Murders: Karnataka To Review Lapses On Part Of Officials, Says Home Minister
Recently, Anjali Ambiger was murdered by Girish Sawanth in Hubballi after she rejected his marriage proposal, following the murder of another student, Neha Hiremanth, on April 18 in the district.
Amidst the opposition BJP's criticism of the Congress government in Karnataka citing the decline in the law and order situation following the murder of a young woman in Hubballi, Home Minister G Parameshwara stated on Friday that he was assessing the lapses on the part of the police and other factors that might have contributed to such recurring incidents.
"I'm reviewing to find if there are any lapses on the part of the officials or if there are any other factors or reasons. As repeatedly such incidents are taking place, we need to find what is the factor," Parameshwara told reporters, as per a report on PTI.
On Wednesday, twenty-year-old Anjali Ambiger was purportedly murdered by 22-year-old Girish Sawanth in Hubballi after she reportedly turned down his marriage proposal, following closely on the heels of the killing of student Neha Hiremath at her college campus in the same city on April 18.
The Minister announced that he is sending an Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) to Hubballi to investigate the incident and submit a report. Additionally, he expressed the possibility of visiting the area himself, if feasible.
On Thursday, the BJP strongly criticised the government regarding the murder of Anjali, asserting that it had failed to uphold the law and order situation and had lost control over the administration.
The opposition party went as far as to call for Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to remove Parameshwara from the Cabinet, claiming that he had severely mishandled the state's law and order situation.
Meanwhile, the police arrested the accused Girish in connection with the murder of Anjali on Friday. On the arrest, Hubballi Dharwad Police Commissioner, Renuka Sukumar said, "He has severe face and head injury for which he needs treatment, after the treatment we will take him into custody for further investigation... He was on his way from Banglore to Goa and from there he wanted to go to Mumbai... He says that the girl has started blocking him and it enraged him, but that's his version which needs to be checked."
