An earthquake of magnitude 2.4 jolted Karnataka's Vijayapura on Tuesday.
An earthquake of magnitude 2.4 jolted Karnataka's Vijayapura district on Tuesday at 09:55 am, said Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC). The epicentre of the earthquake was situated 2.9 kilometres south-east of Managuli in Basavana Bagewadi Taluk, reported news agency PTI. According to the 'Seismic Intensity map' of the said earthquake from its epicentre, the intensity which was recorded was very low and the tremor might have been felt up to a radial distance of 15-20 kilometres from the epicentre.
KSNDMC issued a statement in which it said, "This type of earthquake would not create any harm to the local community as the intensity observed is very low, though there might be local vibrations felt. The epicentre falls in Seismic Zone III and the region is void of any structural discontinuities as per the Tectonic map. The community need not panic as the magnitude & intensity observed are very low," as reported by PTI.
In another such incident, an earthquake of 4.4 magnitude jolted Rajasthan during the early hours of Friday. The visuals during the earthquake captured on CCTV and the footage was doing the rounds on social media. According to the National Centre for Seismology data, it was followed by two earthquakes.

"Earthquake of Magnitude:4.4, Occurred on 21-07-2023, 04:09:38 IST, Lat: 26.88 & Long: 75.70, Depth: 10 Km, Location: Jaipur, Rajasthan, India," the NCS tweeted. Former CM Vasundhara Raje tweeted that tremors were felt in the city. Earlier this month, an earthquake with a magnitude of 4.7 on the Richter Scale struck areas near North Kargil and Ladakh. The tremors were felt at around 401 km North of Kargil, Laddakh at around 7:38 am, said National Center for Seismology.
