Until Infrastructure Of Local Railways Made Better, Won't Allow Construction Work For Bullet Train: Raj Thackeray

"List of issues related to Mumbai Local will be given to Railway on 5 Oct with a deadline. If things don't get better, will see to it," said Thackeray on Saturday.

"It is not the first time that it rained in Mumbai. They (Railway) say it happened due to rains?," MNS chief said commenting on Mumbai stampede.

New Delhi: After the Friday's Mumbai stampede, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray has come out all guns blazing against the government and said that "Until present infrastructure of local railways is made better, not a single brick will be allowed to be placed for the bullet train in Mumbai."

"Will give a deadline to throw out illegal hawkers from station bridges, if it is not complied with then we'll act on our own," he further said.

Twenty-two commuters were killed on Friday when a horrific stampede broke out on a narrow railway foot overbridge linking Elphinstone Road and Parel stations when hundreds took shelter there to escape pounding rains, officials said.

At least 39 others were injured, some critically, the BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Disaster Control said after the morning peak hour tragedy struck on the suburban network - the veritable lifeline of the country's commercial capital. (With inputs from agencies)
