Safety guidelines have been issued by govt.: Gurgaon DC on Ryan School reopening
Gurgaon (Haryana) [India], September 18 (ANI): The Deputy Commissioner of Gurgaon on Monday said that school has been given safety guidelines by the government, amidst growing tension among the parents, following the reopening of the Ryan International School, ten days after the murder of a seven-year-old student in its premises.
DC Vinay Pratap Singh, while addressing the media, said, "After the incident, the government gave specific guidelines on September 15. A school safety committee headed by the principal is to be formed. All the matters related to the security are to be handled by this committee."
He also said that a number of shortcomings in the premises have been observed and the school has been directed to look into the matter.
"A number of shortcomings have been found out through us. All of them have been highlighted and they will be checked within a time-frame. The parents will be informed so that there is a certain amount of confidence on us," he said.
Singh also assured that evidences won't be tampered with, following suggestions by Pradyuman's father that the school shouldn't have been reopened until the investigation is complete.
"Even though a number of shortcomings were found, a lot of people requested that children suffered losses because the school was kept shut for 11 days," he said.
He added, "Once the school was reopened, the area was sanitised so that the evidence couldn't be tampered with. The whole area has been cordoned off as well."
He also said that the school management and the accounts will be handled by him for the next three months.
Singh said that a meeting was scheduled with the parents today, following which a decision would be made regarding the school. He added that another meeting is scheduled for September 23.
The school was closed on September 8 after the boy was murdered inside a school toilet in the morning. The police arrested 42-year-old bus conductor Ashok Kumar in the evening on charges of murder.
Two officials of Ryan management were also arrested later and booked under section 75 of the Juvenile Justice Act. (ANI)
