Ronaldo to undergo tests on his ankle injury, confirms Zidane

Madrid [Spain], May 7 (ANI): Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane has confirmed that Cristiano Ronaldo would undergo tests on his ankle injury, after the star striker was substituted at half-time during an entertaining 2-2 draw against Barcelona at Camp Nou last evening.

The Portuguese striker had cancelled out forward Luis Suarez's opening goal for the unbeaten La Liga champions Barcelona in the 14th minute of the match before Ronaldo suffered a knock to his ankle while tapping in Karim Benzema's header.

Subsequently, Ronaldo was forced to limp off the field as Madrid went on to secure a 2-2 draw against 10-man Barcelona after Gareth Bale struck in the 72nd minute to cancel out Lionel Messi's superb individual effort in the 52nd minute.

And Zidane denied putting a time frame on Ronaldo's injury absence, despite the Champions League final against Liverpool being just three weeks away.

"I don't know how long he'll be out. He said it wasn't much, but we'll see tomorrow, we'll do some tests to see the extend of the damage done to his ankle. He was a little worried because it was a bit swollen, but he said that it's nothing serious," Zidane said following the stalemate.

The result left Real Madrid three points behind city rivals Atletico in the race for second, with a game in hand.

Zidane said that he would have loved to win the match, especially because his side had got a lot of good opportunities to score goals in the match.

"I'd have liked to have won. There was nothing at stake but it was a good Clasico, high intensity and chances. They played well and so did we...We had a good opportunity to win today, clearly, we had a lot of chances to score, especially in the first half, in the end it was a draw and that's that, there are two games left and, in the end, Barcelona will finish the season unbeaten," Zidane said.

Real Madrid will now lock horns with Sevilla in their next La Liga clash on May 10 before they head into their Champions League final match against Liverpool on May 27. (ANI)
