Rahul's gesture shocked PM Modi: Congress

New Delhi [India], July 21 (ANI): The Congress Party on Saturday claimed that party president Rahul Gandhi's hug shocked and surprised Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

"When Prime Minister Modi can shake hands with the Prime Minister of Pakistan, why not with Rahul? We all expected Prime Minister Modi to return the affection with a smile, but Modi Ji looked shocked and surprised," Congress spokesperson Jaiveer Shergill said a press conference here.

In an unexpected move, Rahul, on Friday, walked up to the Prime Minister and hugged him after concluding his speech in Lok Sabha during the discussion on the No-Confidence Motion.

The Congress president's unexpected gesture left Parliamentarians surprised and also earned praise from his party leaders.

Meanwhile, Shergill further claimed that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is making all efforts to turn Hindustan into 'lynchistan.'

"We were expecting that after the Supreme Court order, the BJP will change their opinion and way of thinking. But after the recent lynching incident, we are clear that they (BJP) are against democracy. The Alwar incident has proved that the BJP is not following any guidelines provided by the top court," he said.

Shergill's remark came after a 28-year-old man was allegedly lynched in Alwar district on the intervening night of Friday-Saturday. (ANI)
