PM Modi leaves for 5-day Africa tour

New Delhi [India], July 23 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday left for a five-day, three-nation tour to Rwanda, Uganda and South Africa.

Prime Minister Modi will reach Rwanda today, marking the first ever visit by an Indian Prime Minister.

Upon reaching Rwanda at around 6 p.m., the Prime Minister will get a ceremonial reception.

The Prime Minister will then head for a one-on-one meeting and delegation level talks with the President of the Republic of Rwanda, Paul Kagame. Prime Minister Modi will also interact with the Indian community.

Later, at around 8 p.m., there will be an exchange of agreements followed by dinner, hosted by the Rwandan President and reception, hosted by the High Commissioner for Indian Community.

Prime Minister Modi will then proceed to Uganda, where he will undertake engagements from July 24 to 25. The visit will mark the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the country in over 20 years.

During the two-day visit in Uganda, Prime Minister Modi will call on Uganda President Yoweri Museveni and hold delegation level talks.

The Prime Minister is also scheduled to address Uganda's Parliament and the Indian diaspora.

Two lines of credit will also be announced for Uganda during Prime Minister's visit, the MEA said.

Lastly, the Prime Minister will head to South Africa, the final leg of his visit, to attend the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) summit.

The Prime Minister is also scheduled to meet South African President Cyril Ramaphosa.

A number of agreements and MoUs in the areas of defence, trade, culture, agriculture and dairy cooperation are scheduled to be signed during the Prime Minister's visit, the Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement. (ANI)
