Mumbai Building Collapse: 7 Dead, Several Injured In Dongri; PM Modi Expresses Anguish

Background

Mumbai: A four-storey building collapsed in Mumbai’s Dongri area with around 40 to 50 people feared trapped under the debris.

The fire brigade along with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team rushed to the building collapse site to undertake rescue efforts at the earliest.

As per latest reports, details on any injuries or casualties were yet not available.

Many families were present inside the building at the time of the accident. Emergency workers were finding it tough to drill through the rubble as the lanes in the area are narrow and crowded by people.

Responding to the accident, BMC Disaster Management Cell said, “Kesarbai building has collapsed at Tandel street, in Dongri, Mumbai. More than 40 people are feared trapped.”

The area where the tragic incident happened has many old buildings. The Kesarbai building which collapsed was already declared risky and unfit for use.

On July 13, a 12-year-old boy died after falling into a water-filled pit, dug for the construction of the Coastal Road, near Worli, a civic official said Saturday. Bablu Kumar Paswan drowned in the pit near Worli Sea Link at 1.20 pm Friday, said an official of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

The ambitious 8-lane Coastal Road will link Marine Lines in south Mumbai with suburban Kandivali in the north.

This is a breaking news and more details are awaited
