Maharashtra: Additional Commissioner (Fisheries) files FIR against Congress MLA

Sindhudurg (Maharashtra) [India], July 08 (ANI): The Additional Commissioner (Fisheries) has filed an FIR against Congress MLA Nitesh Rane for assaulting him in his office yesterday.

Yesterday, Rane lost his cool and hurled a fish at the senior government officer in a meeting called to discuss problems faced by fishermen in Mumbai.

Rane alleged that the Additional Commissioner was acting in a biased manner and was favouring powerful people.

"No one wants to do this on his own wish. There is anger boiling among the fishermen which I had to explain to that particular officer because they don't do their work properly.

We've to sometimes remind them to do it properly in an aggressive manner as I did yesterday," Rane told ANI on Friday.

He added that the Maharashtra Government has laid some rules as to where fishermen would do their work.

"But not a single rule has been followed by them and the officials know that still no fine or action has been taken. Yesterday, what you saw on the camera, that meeting was the boiling point as what the situation has come to," Rane said.

He further said that if the officers do not take proper action then like the farmers, the fishermen will also commit suicide.

In a video clip, Rane is purportedly seen talking to the fisheries commissioner of Sindhudurg in his office packed with people on Thursday. It showed that during the meeting, the legislator suddenly lost his cool, picked up a fish which was dumped on the commissioner's table and threw it at him. (ANI)
