Free judicial system essential for democracy: RS Prasad

New Delhi [India], July 17 (ANI): Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad has asserted that a free judicial system is essential for democracy.

Delivering a lecture at an event in New Delhi yesterday, the Union Minister said, "A free judicial system is essential for democracy. It is the duty of the government to give assistance and infrastructure but the obligation to run the judicial system must rest only and only with the judiciary."

Prasad added that there should be accountability in the judiciary, something which would help judges find out whether the system is in order.

He said, "If there is a need for accountability in all forms of government, then, there is also a need for considering the possibility of accountability among the judiciary as to how the system is working, do we need to expedite it, do we need to explore extra avenues". (ANI)
