Dharmendra Pradhan to launch PMUY LPG Panchayat in Gujarat
Gandhinagar (Gujarat) [India], Sept. 23 (ANI): Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan and Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani will on Saturday inaugurate LPG Panchayat, one of the ambitious programmes of the Centre, aimed at encouraging rural communities to turn to clean fuel.
The LPG Panchayats, under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY), will bring together about 100 LPG users of an area and create an interactive platform to discuss safe and sustainable usage of LPG, its benefits and linkages between using clean fuel and empowering women.
The first LPG Panchayat will be held at Isanpur-Mota village of Gandhinagar.
It is reported that the central government would organise 1 lakh 'LPG Panchayat' across the nation during the next 18 months to popularise use of clean fuel for cooking among the rural population of the country.
PMUY was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 1, 2016 with an aim to provide LPG connections to those who are still dependent on wood or coal for cooking their food.
Till date, more than five crore LPG connections have been distributed to families under Below Poverty Line (BPL), say the records of the Petroleum Ministry. (ANI)
