CPI(M) Leader Sitaram Yechury Exits Rajya Sabha, SP's Ramgopal Yadav Turns Emotional

Reports say the tussle between the West Bengal unit and Kerala unit of the CPM made sure that Yechury did not get renomination for the Rajya Sabha.

General Secretary Yechury has for years backed the hugely popular warhorse V.S. Achuthanandan whereas his predecessor, Prakash Karat, has been more supportive of the hardliner in Kerala's politics, Pinarayi Vijayan.

There’s no doubt that Yechury was the CPM’s strongest voice in the Parliament. Yechury in his farewell speech recalls his 45 years association with Mr. Arun Jaitley. “We will continue to debate,” he said.
