Only Because Of…': Sherpa Amitabh Kant Credits PM Modi For G20 Joint Statement

G20 India Sherpa Amitabh Kant has shared a social media post stating how a 100 per cent consensus on the New Delhi Leaders' Declaration is an achievement for India amid an extremely polarised world.

G20 Summit India: The consensus of G20 nations on the New Delhi Leaders' Declaration has proved India's diplomatic wit using which it succeeded in achieving what seemed nearly impossible due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine. India managed to get all the leaders of the group on the same page for the entire declaration which contains 83 paragraphs. While there are many reasons to hail this feat, India's G20 Sherpa Amitabh Kant credited PM Narendra Modi's 'stature and standing of excellence at the global stage' for the landmark outcome.

He took to X and posted a photo of him with PM Modi and crediting his 'stature and standing of excellence at the global stage' for the consensus on the declaration.

"The grand success of #G20India Leaders' Summit, with 100% consensus from all countries on all issues has been possible only because of PM @narendramodi's stature and standing of excellence at the global stage. It is truly an honour for me to be his Sherpa for India’s #G20 Presidency," he said.

Kant also highlighted a crucial aspect of the communique. In a long post on LinkedIn, Kant said that none of the paragraphs contain a single qualifier or footnote, serving as a "testament to India’s ability to achieve unparalleled global cooperation at a time of extreme polarisation".

Terming the Delhi G20 Summit as the 'most ambitious' in the history of G20 presidencies, he said the ground-breaking declaration champions the voice of the developing countries and also advocates for a world that is more inclusive, sustainable, and attuned to the needs of the most vulnerable populations.

Explaining the means that made it possible, Kant mentioned that the work had been long and challenging, and involved deep discussions across the aisle on the most pressing issues of today's time. "Over two intense days, world leaders united in a commitment that transcends boundaries. Through this declaration, India has succeeded in forging a consensus on issues that no one has dared tackle before, shaping a brighter, more equitable future for all," he added.

He said that the adoption of the New Delhi Leaders' Declaration is a "momentous occasion" that marks the "zenith of human-centric globalisation, a vision tirelessly pursued under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi". Kant further said that the document voices the concerns of the Global South and brings multilateralism centre stage.

He also expressed gratitude towards officials for putting in their "relentless efforts" that culminated in this "historical moment for multilateralism".

"I would like to express my heartfelt appreciation to my dynamic and dedicated team of officers. It is their relentless efforts, exemplified by individuals such as Abhay Thakur, Nagaraj Naidu, Ashish Sinha, Eenam Gambhir, and countless others, that have culminated in this historical moment for multilateralism. To all my fellow Sherpas, with a special nod to those representing emerging markets, your dedication and collaboration have been invaluable," he said in the post.

On Sunday, Kant had tweeted his photograph with two officers and praised them for the effort on the document and said that it was finalised after over 200 hours of negotiations and over 300 bilateral meetings.

Kant concluded the post by extending his "deep appreciation" to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, for his "visionary leadership, charismatic persona, and global respect" which, he said, have been instrumental in achieving this milestone.

"His commitment to a better world has been the cornerstone of our success. India, under his stewardship, shines as a beacon of hope, progress, peace, and prosperity on the world stage. We have truly shown the globe what it means to act as One World, One Family, with One Future," he added.
