Aamir Khan Shares He Didn’t Bathe For Days To Stay True To His Roles in Rakh And Ghulam

Bollywood star Aamir Khan, often hailed as ‘Mr Perfectionist’ for his dedication to his craft, opened up about the label and shared some behind-the-scenes details from his film shoots at the ABP Network’s India@2047 Summit.

Aamir Khan on being called Mr Perfectionist

When asked about how he feels being known as ‘Mr Perfectionist’, Aamir said, "Every person tries to do better and better. I didn’t give myself this tag (Mr Perfectionist), but I accept that it’s a good one."

When Aamir Khan didn't bathe for 12 days

The conversation took an interesting turn when he was asked about the long-standing rumour that he didn’t bathe for 12 days while shooting for a film. Confirming the story, Aamir revealed, "I’ve done this not once, but twice. During the filming of Rakh, I didn’t bathe because my character lives on the streets after leaving home. I wanted it to feel real, so I avoided bathing to look like someone who’s actually ended up on the road."

He went on to share another instance from the 1998 film 'Ghulam', saying, "In Ghulam, there was a long action sequence in the climax where I get badly beaten up. Gradually, my injuries started increasing. If I had bathed every day after shooting, it would have ruined the continuity. So I decided not to bathe for a week to maintain the same look and feel for the scene. Because when you bathe the next day, you end up looking fresh—which I didn’t want."

On his dream project

Aamir also spoke about his dream project Mahabharat. “Mahabharat is a dream of mine—one I hope to bring to life, but it’s a very difficult dream. Mahabharat will never let you down, but you might let Mahabharat down. That’s why I’m treading carefully. Once my current film is released, I can begin working on it. I’m trying my best—let’s see how things unfold. It’s such a massive project that I don’t want to say much right now,” he said.

When asked which character he would be most drawn to playing in the adaptation, Aamir shared his admiration for one of the epic’s most pivotal figures: “The character of Krishna deeply moves me—that’s the character I truly love.”
