Delhi Logs 20,718 New Covid-19 Cases, 15% Less Than Yesterday. Positivity Rate Stays At 30%

New Delhi: Amid a growing fear of a possible third Covid-19 wave following the detection of the new Omicron variant, Delhi reported 20,718 new cases and 30 deaths in the last 24 hours.

Around 69,554 Covid patients are in home isolation, while 2,508 have been admitted in the hospitals with the infection, as per the health bulletin released by the Delhi government.
Arrangements have been made for a total of 15,494 beds in the dedicated Covid hospitals, while 4,626 beds are there in the dedicated Covid care centres.
Of the 15,494 beds in dedicated Covid hospitals, just 2,620 have been occupied.
Besides, arrangements have been made for 158 beds in the dedicated Covid health centres, according to the health bulletin.
Earlier in the day, Delhi Health Minister Satyendra Jain said the peak of the Covid-19 cases has arrived in the national capital.
“Cases’ peak has arrived, let’s see when the decline begins...seems like cases have begun to slow down,” he said, ANI reported.
Jain further said the Covid-19 cases in Delhi are expected to be reduced by 4,000 on Saturday.
“The positivity rate will be around 30%. The hospital admission rate hasn’t risen in past five to six days. This indicates that cases are going to be fewer in the coming days,” he said, adding 85% of hospital beds are vacant in Delhi.
Earlier on Friday, the national capital had reported 24,383 cases with a positivity rate of 30.64 percent and 34 deaths.
Delhi had on Thursday logged 28,867 Covid cases, the sharpest single-day spike since the beginning of the pandemic, PTI reported.
The national capital on Thursday reported 31 deaths, while the positivity rate stood at 29.21 percent.
