The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is the most sensitive ward of any hospital, where patients with serious ailments are taken care of. Many machines are installed in this ward for the treatment of the patient. Many medical examination machines may malfunction when they come in contact with the mobile phone waves within a radius of one meter.

A patient is also kept in ICU in order to protect them from germs so that they can recover quickly. However, through smartphones, many types of bacteria can enter the ICU. Hence, doctors do not permit carrying mobile phones in this ward. Let us know other harmful effects of mobile phones in ICU.

According to research, carrying or using mobile in the ICU can prove fatal for the patients. Therefore, there should be a strict ban on doctors, nurses, and others taking mobile phones inside ICU. The touchscreens or keypads of 56 out of 100 mobile phones of doctors were found infected with bacteria and viruses as per research. Many germs found on the screen were reportedly resistant to antibiotics.

Research has found that while using the mobile, the dirt of the hands, sweat keeps accumulating on the keypad. During the conversation, our saliva spills out from the mouth on the mobile, due to which bacteria and viruses grow comfortably on the mobile keypad. If we do not clean our mobile screens, it may become a safe haven for bacteria and viruses. This is why carrying a mobile phone can prove dangerous for patients admitted to the ICU.
