COVID-19 Hits Frontline Workers: Maharashtra Police Force Records 303 New Cases, 5 Deaths In 24 Hours

The continuous spread of novel Coronavirus in Maharashtra require frontline workers such as medical professionals and police officials to risk their lives and continue to work day in and day out. Amid the long-going battle, as many as 13,000 cops in Maharashtra have contracted COVID-19. ALSO READ | Mumbai: Institutional Isolation Must For COVID-19 Positive Patients Aged Above 50 Years As per the reports, the Maharashtra police recorded at least 303 new COVID-19 cases and five deaths in the last 24 hours. This is reportedly the highest single day spike in the Coronavirus cases in police force in Maharashtra which has emerged just a day before Ganesh Chaturthi, a popular festival in the state which draws large crowds and requires large deployment of police forces. As reported by India Today, the Maharashtra police have so far reported 13,180 cases of which, 2,389 are active cases. While more than 10,000 police personnel who had contracted the virus have recovered, as may as 136 policemen lost lives due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In another development, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) tightened the quarantine guidelines making institutional isolation compulsory for all the COVID-19 infected patients aged above above 50 years. ALSO READ | Ganesh Chaturthi 2020: Know Significance Of The Festival And Why Modak Is Offered To Lord Ganesha In a circular issued on August 19, the public health department recommended that anybody aged above 50 year, with or without co- morbidities, must undergo complete isolation at Covid Care Centre from this week in a bid to bring down morality rate. The Civic body took the decision in order to curb the high morality rate among COVID-19 patients in the city. As per the data recorded, it was analysed that mortality rate in patients in the 50 to 60 age group is very high. As per the reports, one in five infections and one in four deaths in the city was from the age-bracket of 50-59.
