Coronavirus Update: 53,601 New Cases Recorded, 871 Deaths In A Day | A Look At India's Covid-19 Figures

The top affected states remain Maharashtra (5,24,513), Tamil Nadu (296,901), Andhra Pradesh (227,860), Karnataka (178,087), and Delhi (1,46,134).

Coronavirus Update: India’s coronavirus status remains grim with the total number of cases nearing the 23-lakh mark with 53,601 cases being reported in a day.  Although recoveries rose to 15,83,490 the tally of coronavirus cases mounts at 22,68,676 as on Tuesday, according to the Union Health Ministry data. The total number of deaths from Covid-19 rose to 45,257 as 871 deaths reported in the last 24 hours. Also Read: Kolkata Extends Ban On Flights From 6 Corona 'Hotspots' Till August 31 India had crossed the 20-lakh mark on Friday after the number of new cases reported per day witnessed a surge. The country recorded the highest number of recoveries in a single day with 47,747 coronavirus patients having recovered and discharged on Monday. Now, India has 28.21 per cent active cases, 69.80 per cent cured/discharged/migrated and 1.99 per cent deaths. The five most-affected states by number of cases are Maharashtra (5,24,513), Tamil Nadu (296,901), Andhra Pradesh (227,860), Karnataka (178,087), and Delhi (1,46,134). As many as 4,77,023 samples were tested on Sunday, a sharp drop in testing after the highest ever over 7 lakh tests on Saturday. A total of 2,45,83,558 samples have been tested so far, according to the Indian Council of Medical Research.
Globally, the coronavirus pandemic has touched a grim milestone on Monday as it surpassed 20 million cases leaving the human race amid a historic pandemic. Meanwhile, the Expert Committee on vaccine administration under the chairmanship of NITI Aayog member Dr V K Paul will meet on Wednesday to consider the logistics and ethical aspects of procurement and administration of Covid-19 vaccine.
The Committee will engage with all the stakeholders including state governments and vaccine manufacturers. "The Committee will engage with all the stakeholders including State governments and vaccine manufacturers," it said in another tweet.
