Coronavirus India: 4,100 Fatalities Reported As States Reconcile Death Toll, Check Fresh Infections

The cumulative COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in the country crossed 182.55 crores so far, according to the ministry data.

New Delhi India on Saturday reported 1,660 fresh COVID-19 cases, 2,349 recoveries, and 4,100 deaths in the last 24 hours.

The surge in deaths reported is due to states revising the tally of fatalities.

The cumulative death toll in Maharashtra increased to 1,47,779 from 1,43,772 due to reconciliation of data. In Kerala, 79 were designated as COVID-19 deaths after receiving appeals based on the new guidelines of the Centre and the directions of the Supreme Court.

Meanwhile, the new coronavirus infections took India's total tally of COVID-19 cases to 4,30,18,032, while the active cases dipped to 16,741.

According to the Union Health Ministry data, the death toll climbed to 5,20,855 with the fresh fatalities.

The active cases comprise 0.04 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate is at 98.75 per cent.

The number of people who have recuperated from COVID-19 increased to 4,24,80,436.

Coronavirus Cases In Kerala, Maharashtra, Delhi

Kerala reported 543 new cases of COVID-19 and 81 deaths on Friday. The fresh surge took the total infections to 65,30,194 and the death toll to 67,631.

Of the 81, two occurred in the last few days but were not recorded due to late receipt of documents, and 79 were designated as COVID-19 deaths after receiving appeals based on the new guidelines of the Centre and the directions of the Supreme Court.

972 recuperated from the disease and took the total cured to 64,57,300 till now.

On the other hand, Maharashtra on Friday reported 275 new coronavirus infections and two pandemic-related deaths, taking the caseload to 78,73,231 and the death toll to 1,47,779.

Though only two fresh fatalities were reported during the day, the cumulative death toll in the state increased to 1,47,779 from 1,43,772 due to reconciliation of data, the state health department informed, as reported by PTI.

With 346 patients recovering, the total of recovered cases in Maharashtra increased to 77,24,560. There are 892 active patients in the state currently.

Coronavirus case fatality rate is 1.87 per cent while the recovery rate is 98.11 per cent.

Meanwhile, Delhi on Friday reported 112 fresh COVID-19 cases and one death, while the positivity rate increased marginally to 0.41 per cent.

With this, the national capital's case count has increased to 18,64,358 and the death toll has risen to 26,150.

On Thursday, Delhi had reported 111 COVID-19 cases with a positivity rate of 0.38 per cent, and one death.

On multiple days in March so far, the city has recorded no deaths.

The number of daily COVID-19 cases in Delhi has been on the decline after touching the record high of 28,867 on January 13. The city had recorded a positivity rate of 30.6 per cent on January 14, the highest during the third wave of the pandemic.
