2022 was a year of great gaming titles, from the likes of AAA hits such as God of War Ragnarok and Elden Ring to indie gems like Stray and Sifu. However, apart from PC and console releases, gamers were also treated to a plethora of delightful mobile games that were not only fun to play, but also pushed the boundaries of ‘mobile gaming’ by gigantic leaps. From Diablo Immortal to Marvel Snap, here are some of the most exciting mobile games released in 2022 that you can check out. 

Diablo Immortal (Android, iOS)

Developed by Bizzard and NetEase, Diablo Immortal is a must-try for MMORPG fans. While the game was initially released with touch controls, controller support was added later to accommodate PC players. While the game’s graphics were lauded by fans, its heavy reliance on microtransactions was met with flak. Sadly, it appears that microtransactions are not leaving the mobile platform anytime soon. We simply appreciate the fact that you can play one of the most beloved RPG titles on the phone, thanks to Diablo Immortal.

Battlefield Mobile (Android)

While Diablo Immortal brings the classic PC title to mobile, Battlefield Mobile does the same for mobile gamers, albeit only for Android so far. It is expected that the beta rollout will wrap up soon and the game will soon release for all users on all mobile platforms in the coming weeks. Bringing console-quality graphics with Battlefield’s signature combat on mobile, Battlefield Mobile offers tried-and-tested modes such as Conquest, Rush, and Team Deathmatch. By the looks of it, this could be give Call of Duty Mobile a run for its money.

Marvel Snap (Android, iOS)

Who said card-collecting games are no fun? Winner of the prestigious The Game Awards 2022 for Best Mobile Game, Marvel Snap allows players to collect cards depicting iconic Marvel superheroes, each with their unique special ability. The game boasts over 170 superheroes so far, including the likes of Spider-Man, Daredevil, Doctor Strange, and Wolverine, and promises to add even more characters on a weekly basis. Easy to play and promising super quick matches, Marvel Snap is a great way to kill time on transit (or for quick washroom breaks at work).

Vampire Survivors (Android, iOS)

Originally released on PC, Vampire Survivors is a roguelike shooter where you control a character who attacks automatically as you clear seemingly endless droves of monsters, trying to stay alive for as long as possible. This is similar to one of those endless runners like Subway Surfers or Jetpack Joyride, except this one’s just way more fun. Don’t take our word for it. Just download the game and see for yourself!

The Past Within (Android, iOS)

While mobile games do allow us to connect with other players from across the world, there aren’t many co-op games available on the platform. This is why The Past Within is on our list of top mobile games this year. It requires you to engage with another player who must have the game installed on their phone as well. The game also requires you to communicate with the other person constantly in order to solve puzzles. In a way, The Past Within is best described as a couch multiplayer — a true rarity in the world of mobile gaming (apart from frivolous party games). The game gets steadily creepier as you progress through puzzles. We got spooked more often than we’d care to admit.

 

Isle of Arrows (Android, iOS)

If tower defence and sublime graphics stir your soul, you shouldn’t miss Isle of Arrows. While the gameplay is easy to learn and may appear simple at first, the game ups the difficulty level quickly and soon you will be tapping frantically on your phone screen to protect your tower against seemingly endless waves of enemies. Why we like Isle of Arrows is because it pushes you to use your little grey cells and strategise on the go.
