GTA 6 Announcement Teased By Sony Following Massive Leak? Here’s What Really Happened

GTA 6 developer Rockstar Games said that the game will only be introduced “when it’s ready”.

Now that God of War Ragnarok is set to hit the shelves on November 9, GTA 6 is now officially the most awaited game for fans. The recent alleged Sony teaser of the GTA 6 announcement only proves the same. Read on to find out what happened.

On October 18, PlayStation-maker Sony posted a TikTok on the most iconic intro songs on the PlayStation 2. The clip showed the intro screen of GTA San Andreas. In the comments, fans posted their favourite titles with the most memorable intro tunes, including the likes of Sly Cooper, Metal Gear Solid, and more. One user, named William P., posted, “GTA Vice City intro please.” To that comment, Sony commented, “20th anniversary is coming up too.”

This comment was enough to send the GTA fan community into a tizzy. GTA Vice City was launched on October 29, 2002. Fans went on to speculate that developer Rockstar Games might go ahead and announce GTA 6 on the upcoming anniversary.

The recent massive GTA 6 leak teased that the upcoming game might be based in Vice City, which only added to the overall excitement.

On the other hand, the first ever Grand Theft Auto game was launched for PC users on October 21, 1997. Some fans also went on to speculate that the GTA 6 trailer might drop on the 25th anniversary of GTA.

Now, it should be noted that all these are just speculations of eager fans. There has been no communication from Rockstar or any other established gaming firm that GTA 6 will indeed be introduced on October 21 or even October 29.

However, considering the recent GTA 6 leak — which saw over 90 alleged footage from the game’s testing build being leaked on fan-dedicated platform GTAForum by a user named teapotuberhacker — has led fans to believe that Rockstar might decide to expedite the release timeline of GTA 6.

In its response, Rockstar attributed “network intrusion” by a third party as the cause behind the leak. “We recently suffered a network intrusion in which an unauthorised third party illegally accessed and downloaded confidential information from our systems, including early development footage for the next Grand Theft Auto,” the New York City-based developer said in a statement.

Despite worries that the leak might delay the release of GTA 6, Rockstar assured that it doesn’t anticipate any “disruption” to the development on its ongoing projects as well as live game services.

Rockstar added, “We are extremely disappointed to have any details of our next game shared with you all in this way. Our work on the next Grand Theft Auto game will continue as planned and we remain as committed as ever to delivering an experience to you, our players, that truly exceeds your expectations.” Rockstar said that it will “properly introduce” GTA 6 when it is ready.

For now, the rumours of GTA 6 being announced this month should be treated as all rumours should be considered — with a pinch of salt. At least until there’s an official communication from the developers.
