No DLC Plans
In an interview with Rolling Stone, John Epler, the creative director of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, confirmed that BioWare will not be pursuing downloadable expansions for the RPG. Instead, the studio is fully focused on developing the next Mass Effect title. Epler, however, did not disclose any specifics about this upcoming project.
Additionally, Epler discussed the potential for remastering the first three Dragon Age titles for contemporary platforms, similar to the Mass Effect Legendary Edition, which offers an enhanced collection of the original trilogy. While he expressed enthusiasm for the idea of a remaster, he acknowledged that it would be a complex undertaking.
He said, “I think I'm one of about maybe 20 people left at BioWare who's actually used Eclipse. It's something that's not going to be as easy as Mass Effect, but we do love the original games. Never say never, I guess that's what it comes down to.”
The first two Dragon Age titles were built using a custom Eclipse engine, whereas the Mass Effect trilogy was developed on the popular Unreal Engine, facilitating a smoother remastering process for the Legendary Edition.
The upcoming installment in the Mass Effect series, which currently remains untitled, was first teased in a trailer at The Game Awards 2020. However, BioWare has yet to release any further details about the game.
Recently, BioWare’s executive producer Michael Gamble, who is heading the development team for the next Mass Effect installment, shared that the new game will preserve the mature themes of the original trilogy while also featuring a photorealistic visual aesthetic.
