Cheating On Fortnite Will Be Immensely Harder Now. Epic Games Plans To Sue Cheaters, Cheat Sellers
Players banned for cheating will be barred from participating in Fortnite Champion Series (FNCS) tournaments during their ban period and any overlapping competitive seasons.
Epic Games, the creator of Fortnite, has unveiled stronger measures to combat cheating in its tournaments, alongside plans to pursue legal action against both those who cheat and those who sell cheats.
Cheating has plagued gaming for years, whether through traditional card tricks or using hacks in modern video games like Call of Duty. Developers, including Epic, have invested significant effort to curb this problem. However, the company is now implementing stricter tournament rules to address the issue more effectively.
What Has Epic Announced?
A standout rule targets players who knowingly team up with cheaters. According to Epic, "Anyone found collaborating with a cheater in a tournament will face a minimum 28-day competitive ban," with harsher penalties for repeat offences. This policy applies across team-based formats like duos, trios, or quads, ensuring that the entire squad shares accountability if one member cheats. The goal is to encourage players to vet their teammates carefully to avoid collective punishment.
The consequences don't stop there. Players banned for cheating will be barred from participating in Fortnite Champion Series (FNCS) tournaments during their ban period and any overlapping competitive seasons. For instance, a late-season ban could disqualify a player from two FNCS finals.
On the legal front, Epic is stepping up its actions against cheaters and cheat distributors, though specific details remain undisclosed. A statement from the company simply noted, "We’re also ramping up legal action against both players who cheat and cheat sellers."
While these measures may seem strict, they aim to preserve the integrity of the game and provide a fair experience for all players. Cheating not only undermines honest competition but can also expose players to risks, such as malware disguised as cheats.
Epic’s renewed commitment reflects its determination to maintain Fortnite as a competitive and enjoyable space for gamers worldwide.
