BGIS 2024 Grand Finale: Want to know the tale of how the Underdogs or in this case, Undergods made the Big Dogs run for their money? We've got you covered.
BGIS 2024 Grand Finale: Battlegrounds Mobile India Series 2024 (BGIS) Grand Finale organised by Krafton culminated on Sunday at Hyderabad's HITEX Exhibition Centre with Team XSpark taking the trophy and a prize money of Rs 60 lakhs from a pool of Rs 2 crores home. The three-day esports extravaganza featured intense matches and passionate fans, highlighting the growing prominence of Esports in India. Over 5,000 spectators came to witness their favourite teams playing their hearts out. Not all teams could win the prizes but many of them did end up winning hearts.
The well-experienced and renowned teams did enjoy a lot of popularity and cheers during the tournament but, at the same time, the smaller teams, the 'Undergods', showcased their extraordinary skills and ended up winning the hearts of the people there. Krafton refers to these teams as 'Undergods' to value and respect their hard work. In total 16 teams fought a neck-to-neck competition but four of them earned the people's respect there, namely- Team Limra, Inferno Squad, Reckoning Esports, and Vasista Esports.
Undergods Show Their Prowess
The first day began with 16 formidable teams entering the battleground amid fanfare and thunderous applause. This electrifying face-off featured experienced veterans and eager debutants with the fans standing up at their places to witness it. Team Iqoo Soul took the lead, impressively accumulating 58 points. Thrilling performances were also displayed by Global Esports and Team XSpark, carving out their path to the ultimate championship trophy.
What made things interesting was one of the undergods, Team Reckoning Esports (#7) giving the leading teams a tough competition by scoring 36 points. The players were going in all guns blazing and shooting at each other as if their lives depended on it. Team Iqoo Soul (#1) emerged as the top player on Friday but Reckoning Esports also made quite a number of kills as they stood together strong as a team.
Team Vasista Esports (#14), Limra Esports (#15) and Inferno Squad (#16) were not able to perform at their best on that day as they scored just 18, 18, and 12 points respectively. This might have happened because it was the first day that these teams were going head to head with the 'Biggods' and they might've felt the pressure. As the tournament progressed, these teams showed that they meant serious business.
The next day kicked off with these teams going head to head again with each other for the grand prize of Rs 60 lakhs. On Day 2, the points table started to change up a bit with Team Global Esports securing the first place on the charts with 103 points, Team Iqoo Soul slipping down to the fourth position with 86 points and Team Reckoning Esports maintaining its rank at number 7 with 78 points. Team Limra climbed up to the 13th rank with 51 points, Vasista Esports at #15 with 34 points and Inferno Squad stood at the end of the table with just 21 points.
All four of these teams were trying their level best to stay on top of their games but due to some wrong calls and situations, they weren't able to do so. They were still making some pretty commendable kills and were slowly winning the support of fans gathered there. With their fast finger movements and good coordination between teammates, they were trying to keep up with the other teams.
Then came the D-Day, the 'Do or Die' day. All the teams just had one thought in their minds, it's the last day, we have to win.
All teams went in with their guns blazing with the aim to score the maximum kills possible and have the 'Winner Winner Chicken Dinner'. The zeal and excitement on the last day were beyond expectations. As compared to the first two days, the audience turned up on the third day like anything. The cheers were louder than ever, the excitement in the air could be felt from miles away.
Players started to shoot each other during the game like it was a world of the Mafias. Players were busy trying to score points, push through the ranks, and score Chicken Dinners back to back.
On the last day of the Grand Finale, everyone was putting their best foot forward. Team 8Bit came into the spotlight for some time by winning but they weren't able to be consistent with the wins due to which they could not climb up the ranks much. Team Raven Esports showed worth-watching gameplay, and Global Esports and XSpark performed well as expected.
Team Limra dominated in a number of matches. IGL Gokul of the Limra performed exceptionally. He was using smoke grenades, and frag grenades like it was a child's play. He was knocking people out easily and shooting them dead like he could do it in his sleep. Everyone along with the commentators were talking about how they forgot about all the pressure that they were having on the first two days and aced on the third day like they were the champions. They finished at #6 with 115 points in total.
Team Limra, Vasista Esports and Reckoning Esports' performance caught everyone's eyes. These three teams were having their moments and they were also having moments when they would be sad due to the eliminations. On Day 3, they were here to change it all. They understood well that their ranking on the points table positions them in a very tough spot if they want to win the rank 1 title so, they switched up strategies and then started to push down the teams that were on the top of the table.
They succeeded in doing so as well because Team Vasista won the final Erangel match against every other team in the tournament. Fans were screaming their names and cheering for them as they made kills that no one could've even thought of. The use of grenades and the spray shooting was so on point that no other team was able to compete with them. Unfortunately, despite everything they finished at #13 as they were only able to score 89 points in total. Meanwhile, Reckoning Esports did not leave any stone unturned either, they also gave a pretty good competition to all the teams out there. They ended up at #3 with 132 points in total which was just two less than the first runner-up, Global Esports. Team XSpark stood tall at the top of the table with 142 points in total.
