'Mirzapur 2' Quick REVIEW: Amazon Prime's Action Drama Is More Ruthless & Intense Than First Season
'Mirzapur 2' REVIEW: Revenge, violence and greed for power take centerstage in the new season of Amazon Prime Video's action crime drama.
New Delhi: The hype around Amazon Prime Video's 'Mirzapur 2' was on an all-time high after the huge success of the first season, which ended on a cliffhanger. Very few wen series have managed to impress the audience in the second season despite boasting of big names. So was 'Mirzapur 2' able to live up to the massive hype?
Ardent fans of the action crime drama waited for close to two years to know the fate of the main characters. Will Guddu and Golu seek revenge from Munna? Will Beena Tripathi turn out to be the trump card in the new season after facing torture from her father-in-law? How will Sharad's entry change the dynamics in Mirzapur? These are some of the questions which crossed the minds after the trailer of 'Mirzapur 2' was released.
The review is purely based on the first two episodes which were made available before the premiere of the show.
The new season begins days after Munna killed Bablu (Vikrant Massey), Sweety (Shriya Pilgaokar) and Guddu's unborn son. Luck favours Munna (Divyendu Sharma) as he survives despite being shot five times. Meanwhile, Akhandanand Tripathi aka Kaleen Bhaiya (Pankaj Tripathi) gains more power and is ready to shed blood if someone crosses his path. Guddu Pandit (Ali Fazal), who can barely walk, trains his sister Dimpy (Harshita Gaur) and Golu Gupta (Shweta Tripathi) as he has only revenge in his mind. What we liked in Mirzapur 2? The premise of the series remains the same- guns, drugs, violence and action. However, the writers have added more layers to the characters and the story. While we knew Guddu will seek revenge after healing from his past wounds, Golu turns out to be surprise package. She tells her father, "You wanted your daughter to rule Mirzapur. If not the elder one, the younger one will rule the kingdom." Both Golu and Dimpy have changed and are ready to kick some ass. While revenge and power remain the centre of attraction, what we loved was the ever changing relationship between the father and their children. Ramakant and Guddu are facing their own issues after Bablu's death; Kaleen Bhaiya wants his heir to carry forward his legacy despite his flaws and Sharad is forced to choose the fate decided by his father even though he is no more. Sharad's mother reminds her that his father wanted him to conquer Mirzapur. Mirzapur 2: Amazon Prime Video Releases All 10 Episodes; Fans Say 'Well Played', Seen THESE Hilarious Memes Yet? Some of the heavy dialogues leave a strong impact on you. You might want to rewind and watch the scenes again. As expected, the show is full of cuss words and violence. It is ruthless and murkier than the first season. The actors have done an amazing job, be it Pankaj Tripathi and Ali Fazal. We loved Munna aka Divyendu, who is the most evil yet manages to make you laugh. 'Kuch Log Baahubali Paida Hote, Kuch Ko Banana Padta Hai'Pankaj Tripathi has once again proved his acting prowess in the new season of 'Mirzapur'. He remains the star of the show even when others deliver a nuanced performances. We couldn't control our laughter after seeing Munna's face when his father Kaleen Bhaiya called him a youth icon in front of the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister. He is indeed the 'Baahubali' of the show.
