Thar Trailer Decoded: Anil Kapoor & Son Harsh Varrdhan's Film Brings Back Memories Of Sonchiriya & Lootera

'Thar' will begin streaming on Netflix on 6th May 2022

New Delhi: Harsh Varrdhan Kapoor and Anil Kapoor starrer 'Thar' has become the talk of the town ever since its trailer released. Netflix India released the trailer of the upcoming film on Monday. The look and the feel of this gritty and rustic film has caught the attention of audiences and fans.

Looks like it's the first time that the father-son duo are collaborating on a film and also producing it. Anil Kapoor has already worked with his daughter Sonam Kapoor on 'Ek Ladki Ko Dekha To Aisa Laga'.

Thar Trailer Decoded

From the looks of it, Thar's trailer will remind audiences of Abhishek Chaubey's 'Sonchiriya' and Vikramaditya Motwane's 'Lootera'. The sandy dunes, references to dacoits, smugglers and visuals bring back 'Sonchiriya'. That film's opening sequence of a dead carcass of a snake is similar to the imagery of dead wild animals in the sandy deserts of Thar.

This is not to suggest that the two films are similar. One is about the infamous dacoits of Chambal valley, a much-documented and filmed topic of discussion, and the other is about mysterious murders in the Thar.

The 'Lootera' reference is because of Harsh Varrdhan's character dealing in antiques quite similar to Ranveer Singh's character in 'Lootera'.

However, the twist being that perhaps all of the ruckus in Thar is not caused by the arrival of an outsider, Harsh or local dacoits but could be a woman. Anil Kapoor's meta reference to 'Sholay' and Basanti brings Fatima Sana Shaikh into the picture.

Directed by Raj Singh Chaudhary, actor and screenwriter best known for his work in 'Gulaal', the film also stars Satish Kaushik in a pivotal role.

'Thar' will begin streaming on Netflix on 6th May 2022.
