Sharmin Segal on being trolled and facing criticism

A video clip from a recent interview given by the actress is going viral on social media amid all the criticism. In an interview with BBC network, Sharmin talks about how she dealt with all the pressure on the sets of Heeramandi to prove herself and how she found a good support system in the form of her sister who served as an AD on the show.

Sharmin said, "There is a lot of pressure and sometimes it manifests in weird ways but I have a really good support system and I think my strongest system is my sister. She also happened to be in an AD on the show. It worked out in a way that I do have my outlets where I can vent. In my personal life, I think I’m secure enough to today to be able to come home to my husband and put everything that I’ve done at work aside. I want to prove myself but today, I’m also a realist in that way."

She further continued, "We have 1.7 billion people in India itself so after a point, how many people opinions are you gonna shape or control? I’m a very strong advocate for mental health and living life so I do want to do what I want to do and I would love for everyone to love all of it but at the end of the day, there will be people that will say what they have to say.”

Sharmin's co-stars support her amid all trolling

Taha Shah Badussha, who essayed the role of Sharmin's love interest Tajdar, defended Sharmin during an interview with Zoom, saying that the actress who has done two films so far, tries to keep it subtle at times. He said, "I have worked with her and I do know as an actor she has tried her best. I literally felt that people would not give me any love, but not the way I am getting. So, the audience can react in a very unpredictable way, to be very honest."

In further remarks about the actress' performance, he shared that he lived with her on set, where she was consistently punctual. According to him, she consistently aimed to deliver her best. However, he noted that how her performance is perceived by audiences is a different matter entirely, and he refrained from commenting on that aspect. He emphasized that she possesses a good heart and consistently remained present on set, which he believes is a crucial aspect for an actor.

Adhyayan Suman, who essayed the role of a nawab in the series, shared during an interaction with News18 that while viewers have the right to critique performances, resorting to personal attacks crosses a line and can deeply affect an individual's confidence and career trajectory.

Aditi Rao Hydari, who portrayed Bibbojaan in the period drama, criticised trolls during an interview with journalist Puja Talwar, describing them as "mean."Aditi voiced her opinion on the ongoing backlash of Sharmin Segal.

She said, “100%. It's horrible to pick on anybody. I know some people like something and some people don't. There is a way to say it. It can get very mean. It has gotten very mean and I think it's not fair and it shouldn't happen like that. I don't know what else to say but I do feel bad. I think we should all understand it and be there for each other.”

The actress added, “I also feel people do what they think is important to them. If some people want to be mean, that is their prerogative. We have to find a way around it otherwise it will be really difficult. Whoever is facing it, I would just say, 'look at the positive.'”
