The highly anticipated show The Roshans is set to stream on Netflix starting January 17 (Friday). Ahead of its premiere, the makers released a touching three-minute video offering a sneak peek into the family’s cherished memories. The clip features Rakesh, Rajesh, and Hrithik Roshan flipping through a family album, reflecting on past moments and the stories behind each photo.
When Rakesh Roshan refused to cast Hrithik
One of the standout images is from the 50th SCREEN Awards, where the Roshans made an impressive mark, bagging nine awards for the film Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai. The accolades included Best Film, Best Director for Rakesh Roshan, Best Actor and Most Promising Newcomer-Male for Hrithik Roshan, and Best Music Director for Rajesh Roshan, among others.
Another memorable photo was from the sets of the 1997 film Koyla, where Hrithik Roshan, still in his early career, was assisting his father. Reflecting on the moment, Hrithik remarked, “My assistant days and this was Koyla.”
Rakesh Roshan shared an interesting anecdote, “My father-in-law Om Prakash ji wanted me to take him in the film. I said, ‘Daddy, yeh kaha kaam karega, bolta hi nahi hai kuch (How will he work? He barely speaks).’ He said, ‘Le le, tere sath chup chap rehta hai mere se baat karta hai (Take him, he doesn’t speak to you but me).'” Rakesh continued, “When he gave his first shot, I was stunned absolutely.”
Rajesh Roshan added, “Tab tak aagaya tha uske andar… (He had it in him by then).” Hrithik, who went on to make his acting debut in Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai (2000), reflected on his early days with pride.
About Koyla
The Koyla film, starring Shah Rukh Khan and Madhuri Dixit, had moderate success at the box office, leading Rakesh Roshan into a financial crisis. Hrithik recalled, “There was a time when we faced a problem in our house after Koyla flopped. He had lost all his money, whatever he had earned. He lost all the money he had invested and someone who had borrowed money from him also ran off.”
This challenging time brought Rakesh to tears, as he struggled with the loss.
