Maharashtra Cyber Cell issues summons to comedian Samay Raina

Earlier on Thursday, the Maharashtra Cyber Cell issued a second summons to comedian Samay Raina, requesting him to appear before the investigating officer on February 17. This is part of the ongoing investigation into the controversy surrounding India's Got Latent and YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia's offensive comments.

Raina’s lawyer informed the Cyber Cell on Wednesday that the roast show host is currently in the United States and will be returning on March 17.

As a format of the roast show, Allahbadia appeared as a guest along with Ashish Chanchlani and Apoorva Makhija. In an episode which has now been taken down from YouTube, Allahbadia asked a contestant, "Would you rather watch your parents have sex every day for the rest of your life or join in once to make it stop forever?"

FIRs against the showmakers

As clips from the episode spread on social media, separate FIRs were lodged in Mumbai and Assam, with charges filed against 30 to 40 individuals involved in the show. Complaints were also registered against host Samay Raina and Apoorva Makhija.

On Wednesday, Raina announced that he had removed all India’s Got Latent videos, explaining that the controversy had become "too overwhelming for me to manage."

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), he wrote, "Everything that is happening has been too much for me to handle. I have removed all Indias Got Latent videos from my channel. My only objective was to make people laugh and have a good time. I will fully cooperate with all agencies to ensure their inquiries are concluded fairly. Thank you."
