The charges are linked to the content featured in an episode of the series produced by their company, Alt Balaji. They are accused of showing explicit scenes involving minor girls in the web series Gandi Baat.

In response to these allegations, Alt Balaji Telefilm Limited, the production house behind the series, has issued an official statement addressing the media reports. The statement read: “With reference to various media reports regarding the Web Series - ‘Gandi Baat’, ALT Digital Media Entertainment Ltd hereby clarifies that it is fully compliant with all applicable laws including the POCSO Act and any references to the engagement of minors by the Company is entirely incorrect,”

The company further stated that Ekta Kapoor and her mother, Shobha Kapoor, are not directly involved in the daily operations of Alt Balaji. “It is further clarified that Mrs. Shobha Kapoor and Ms. Ektaa R Kapoor are not involved in the day-to-day operations of the company, and the same are managed by separate teams, including its content strategy,” the statement added.
Alt Balaji emphasised its commitment to cooperating with the legal process, expressing confidence in the judicial system. “The Company has complete faith in the judiciary and is fully cooperating with the authorities in the investigation. Since the matter is sub-judice, the company refrains from commenting in detail,” the statement concluded.
The case against Ekta and Shobha Kapoor was reportedly filed on October 20 by Mumbai Police. Initial questioning took place on October 22, and as per reports, both are expected to appear for further questioning on October 24.
Alt Balaji’s Gandi Baat has faced controversy before also for its adult-themed content.
