'We Have Made A National Sport...': Richa Chadha Reacts To Hansal Mehta's Tweet For Shilpa Shetty Amid Raj Kundra Controversy
Richa Chadha and Hansal Mehta extended support to Shilpa Shetty after her husband was arrested in an alleged pornography case.
Mumbai: Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty’s husband Raj Kundra’s arrest for his involvement in an alleged adult films racket case has become the talk of the town. The Crime Branch Cell of Mumbai Police also questioned Shilpa as part of their investigation in the case. While tinsel town celebs have refrained for speaking on the matter, director Hansal Mehta shared a series of tweets to extend support to the ‘Dhadkan’ actress.
The ‘Simran’ director also questioned Bollywood celebrities’ silence over the matter and said that it was ‘unfortunate the way people in public life are proclaimed guilty even before justice was delivered’. He slammed the trolls for taking a dig at Shilpa after her husband was arrested.
“If you cannot stand up for her at least leave Shilpa Shetty alone and let the law decide? Allow her some dignity and privacy. It is unfortunate that people in public life ultimately are left to fend for themselves and are proclaimed guilty even before justice is meted out,” Hansal tweeted.
Richa Chadha responded to his tweet and expressed her displeasure over people ‘blaming women for the mistakes of their partners’.
“We've made a national sport out of blaming women for the mistakes of the men in their lives. Glad she's suing,” the ‘Fukrey’ actress wrote on the micro-blogging site.
Hansal posted another tweet, lashing out the people for mocking and passing comments against a celebrity, when he/she is entangled in a controversy. He wrote, "This vilification is a pattern. If the allegations are against a film person there is a rush to invade privacy, to pass sweeping judgement, to character-assassinate, to fill 'news' with trashy gossip - all at the cost of individuals and their dignity. This is the cost of silence."
For the uninitiated, Shilpa had filed a defamation suit against media outlets for ‘maligning her image’ in connection with an alleged pornography case for which Kundra has been arrested.
The Bombay High Court heard the petition of Shilpa and agreed that her ‘right to privacy should be maintained’ in the case linked to her husband Raj Kundra. The hearing for the case will now take place on September 20.
On the professional front, Shilpa Shetty made her comeback to Hindi cinema with 'Hungama 2'. The comedy drama co-starring Paresh Rawal and Meezan Jaaferi released on a leading OTT platform on July 23.
