New Delhi: The teaser of Punjabi singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh’s upcoming film ‘Chamkila’ was released on Tuesday. The film, directed by Imtiaz Ali, also stars Parineeti Chopra. Diljit is seen without a turban in the film’s teaser for the first time.

The teaser opens with a crowd waiting in front of a stage as the next performer is introduced. The singer is introduced with words, ‘Jawan dilon ki muskaan, aur buzurgo ki shaan, the ‘greatest singer of his time’. Diljit then enters holding an ektara.
In the teaser, it seems Diljit is wearing a wig. He plays Punjab's highest record-selling artiste Amar Singh Chamkila in thw film.
Talking about the film, Imtiaz said, “I could not have asked for better actors than the immensely talented Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra to play in this film, especially since it involves some live singing. The film follows the crazed popularity of Chamkila’s daring songs that society could neither ignore nor swallow.”
Diljit Dosanjh shared that playing Amar Singh Chamkila has been one of the most challenging experiences of his life. “It has been a pleasure to work with Parineeti and the entire team that has worked extremely hard to bring this beautiful story to life. To be able to sing to Rahman sir’s exemplary music was a meditative experience and I hope I have been able to do justice to his vision. Thank you Imtiaz bhajee for believing in me for this role,” he said.
Parineeti shared, “It is a privilege to play Amarjot, Chamkila’s singing partner and wife in this incredible film and I am truly grateful to Imtiaz sir for this opportunity. Sharing the screen with Diljit has been an immensely enriching experience. For me, singing is a passion and collaborating with the legendary AR Rahman has been a long-awaited dream.”
'Chamkila' is based in Punjab, where Amar Singh Chamkila (played by Diljit ) and his partner Amarjot Kaur (played by Parineeti Chopra) were shot dead, along with two members of their band in 1988 in an assassination which remains unsolved.
