BTS Chart Rigging Allegations: ARMY Rally Against South Korean Government's Probe Into HYBE

BTS supporters criticised South Korean Government for launching an investigation into HYBE over chart-rigging practices.

New Delhi: The global BTS ARMY has expressed outrage towards the South Korean government's decision to launch an investigation into HYBE, the agency that manages BTS, over alleged chart-rigging practices. Across social media platforms, particularly X (formerly Twitter), fans initiated a trending hashtag, "South Korea apologised to BTS," to voice their disappointment.

Many BTS supporters criticised the move of the South Korean Government, emphasising the group's significant contribution to South Korea's cultural impact and global recognition.

BTS Fans’ Reaction to BTS Chart Rigging Allegations

One fan talked about the injustice faced by BTS while they were fulfilling their national duties. The tweet reads: "There really isn’t anything lower than throwing these incredible men under the bus when they are literally serving their country and can’t defend themselves while they’re away."

Fans defended BTS's integrity and organic success, rejecting the notion of chart manipulation. One fan demanded, "I just want an investigation on all major kpop companies and groups. If BTS has to prove itself so does everyone else. INVESTIGATE ALL MAJOR KPOP COMPANIES THEN."

What is the Chart-Rigging Allegations?

The K-pop industry is once again at the heart of the controversy, this time amid claims of "sajaegi marketing," the illegal manipulation of music charts. An earlier court case claims that HYBE and other major players in the business utilised tactics to manipulate charts. The South Korean government has initiated an inquiry into the alleged chart-rigging allegations that date back to 2017, in response to public outrage. However, devoted BTS fans have strongly denied the allegations.

According to the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, a petition demanding an investigation into an incident involving HYBE has been received. Given BTS's populariry since 2013, ARMY believes the accusations are an attempt to tarnish the group's reputation.
