Aamir Khan: After Our Divorce I Asked Kiran About My Shortcomings As Husband, And She Had A List

Bollywood actor Aamir Khan revealed that after his divorce from filmmaker Kiran Rao, he asked for feedback from her as to what he was lacking as a husband.

Ideas Of India 3.0: Bollywood actor Aamir Khan revealed that after his divorce from filmmaker Kiran Rao, he asked for feedback from her as to what he was lacking as a husband. During a session titled 'Telling Laapataa Tales: Scenes from an Invisible Nation' on the inaugural day of the third edition of ABP Network’s Ideas of India Summit, Aamir Khan shared how he asked Kiran Rao for tips so that he could become better, and she had a long list for him.

Kiran Rao, when questioned about her learnings from Aamir, expressed her admiration, and said she could write books of several volumes to share what she has learned from the actor.

She then mentioned one quality of Aamir that she likes is that he is extremely open-minded. “Aamir is incredibly open-minded. If you logically explain something to him and he sees value in it, he is quick to agree and accept, which is very rare in a person, as people often let their ego come in the way,” she explained.

Amidst the discussion, Aamir humorously revealed, "After our divorce, I asked Kiran what she thought were the shortcomings in me as a husband, what I could improve. She said to write it down, and about 15 to 20 points were listed."

Laapataa Ladies cast's learnings from Aamir and Kiran
The Laapataa Ladies cast, including Sparsh Shrivastava, Pratibha Ranta, and Nitanshi Goel, also joined the session. When asked about their learnings from Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao, Pratibha shared, "I've learned one great thing from Aamir sir. Recently, when we went to IIM, the audience asked, 'Do you look for perfection in every shot?' He responded, 'No, I don't look for perfection; I look for magic in every shot.' It's something that resonates with me. I would also want to focus on infusing magic into my work in the future."

Nitanshi expressed admiration for Aamir sir's humility, stating, "Aamir sir is a very accomplished actor, and we are all his fans. People often ask why he glows so much, attributing it to his face, but he explained that the secret of his glow is not causing anyone pain, keeping clear intentions, and it reflects in his personality."

Sparsh Shrivastava extended gratitude to both Kiran and Aamir, saying, "On this film, I have evolved as an actor, tapping into emotions I hadn't explored before. I would love to give this to Kiran ma'am. Under Kiran ma'am's guidance, I haven't just become a better actor but a better person as well, and that goes to Aamir sir also because he, too, has inspired me to be a better person. Aamir sir, being a superstar, never carries any baggage. Every conversation with him is incredibly light, a learning experience. He is very humble."

When Aamir was asked if he has really never hurt anyone the actor replied, “I wish I had never hurt anyone's feelings. I make an effort for this. I've learned a lot from my mother; she has been a major influence in my life. She taught me never to hurt anyone's feelings, so I try my best. If, by mistake, something goes wrong, I apologise and seek forgiveness."

Laapataa Ladies is directed by Kiran Rao and is produced under Aamir Khan’s banner Aamir Khan Productions.
