Despite Liger's Failure, Vijay Deverakonda's Upcoming Film 'Kushi' With Samantha Earns Rs. 90 CR From OTT Rights

With five weeks to release, the Shiva Nirvana directorial Kushi starring Vijay Deverakonda and Samantha Ruth Prabhu has earned Rs.90 crores from non-theatre business, trade analysts reported.

New Delhi: Vijay Deverakonda and Ananya Panday starrer 'Liger' was a big failure at the box office. Despite the massive promotional tour and the confidence of the makers, the film bombed so badly that many alleged Vijay had taken it too seriously. Despite all that, it is now being reported that Vijay Deverakonda's upcoming film 'Kushi' with Samantha Ruth Prabhu has earned Rs.90 crores from OTT rights much before its theatrical release.

With five weeks to release, the Shiva Nirvana directorial has earned Rs.90 crores from non-theatre business, a Hindustan Times report said. 'Kushi' is a romantic drama which also happens to be Vijay Deverakonda and Samantha Ruth Prabhu's second collaboration. The two had earlier worked together in 'Mahanti', the super-successful film by Nag Ashwin.

As per trade analyst Trinath, the failure of 'Liger' has no impact on 'Kushi's marketability. "Kushi has done very good business from its non-theatrical rights. This includes rights from other dubbed languages including the film’s Hindi version. Despite the failure of Liger, the film has done business of ₹90 crore from non-theatrical rights such as OTT and satellite deals. The combination of Vijay and Samantha has wonders for the makers in terms of business deals because of the craze around the pair in the market,” Trinath was quoted by the Hindustan Times report.

Industry tracker Ramesh Bala also made the announcement about 'Kushi' on his official social media account. "No impact of #Liger is seen in the pre-release business of #VijayDeverakonda - #SamanthaRuthPrabhu 's #Kushi All Langs Non-Theatricals incl. Hindi have been sold for ₹90 Cr+ already.. Good buzz for this Dir #ShivaNirvana Film from Mythri. 5 Weeks of Shoot remaining.."

'Liger' which happened to be Vijay Deverakonda's Bollywood debut was hyped to another level of excitement. Directed by Puri Jagannadh, the film also starred Ramya Krishnan. The film earned Rs. 60 crores worldwide despite being made on a reported budget of over Rs. 90 crores.

Samantha Ruth Prabhu, on the other hand, has another action film 'Yashoda' awaiting release. After 'Yashoda's trailer was unveiled recently, Samantha made an announcement about her health about which a lot was being speculated. She made the announcement on her official social media handle through which she unveiled that she had been diagnosed with an auto-immune condition called myositis.
