Aamir Khan Recalls Not Paying School Fees On Time Due To Family Debt

Aamir Khan, who is gearing up for the release of his film ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’, recently opened up about his childhood days when his family was in debt and he faced hardships.

New Delhi: Aamir Khan is gearing up for the release of his film ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ and has been promoting his film on various platforms. In one of the recent interviews, the actor opened up about his childhood days when his family was in debt and he faced hardships.

In a conversation with Humans of Bombay, Aamir welled up while recalling his childhood days and the rough patch his family faced due to debts for around eight years. Aamir said that during his school days, the fee structure was – ₹6 for the 6th standard, ₹7 for the 7th standard, ₹8 for the 8th standard, and so on. Aamir and his siblings were always late to pay their fees due to the financial crunch at home. The principal would announce their names in the assembly, in front of the entire school after a few warnings. Aamir had tears in his eyes while recalling those days.

Aamir Khan is film producer Tahir Hussain and his wife Zeenat Hussain's son. He has four siblings - Faisal Khan, Farhat Khan and Nikhat Khan. He is the eldest of them all.

What inspired Aamir Khan to do ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’
Aamir’s film ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ is an official remake of the much acclaimed ‘Forrest Gump’ starring Tom Hanks. The actor recently revealed what inspired him to do an adaptation of the film.

Aamir told IANS: "Around 14 years ago, Atul Kulkarni, who is the writer of the adaptation, and I were talking one night. He asked me, 'What is your favourite film?', and I said 'Forrest Gump' is one of them. I named a few more also. But somehow, we got talking about this film and then the night got over. He went home and I forgot about it.

"Two weeks later, he called me up and said, I have written a screenplay for you. So, I said, 'But you don't write'. He replied, 'Yeah. But I have tried to write and I have written it.' I asked: 'In two weeks?' And he said, 'Yes'. He said, 'I have written an adaptation of 'Forest Gump'.'

"At first, I started laughing. 'Forrest Gump' is such a classic you don't want to even attempt a remake. Plus he's done it in only two weeks. And this is the first script he has written.

"So, I didn't take it very seriously. It was my folly actually that I didn't take it seriously. I didn't hear it until two years (had passed). The day I heard Atul's narration, I just fell in love with it."

"I found it so beautifully done. How can something like 'Forrest Gump', which is so deeply rooted in American culture be made in any other culture?, I could not understand. But Atul showed me how. It was Atul's adaptation that made me do it," Aamir added.

The film, also starring Kareena Kapoor Khan, Mona Singh, Naga Chaitanya, will release on August 11.
