"As a challenge, I will help her (Priyanka Gandhi) to make Wayanad the best tourism destination in the world," Rahul said while addressing a gathering followed by a roadshow along with Priyanka from the Assumption Junction to Chungam Junction in Sultan Bathery, Wayanad, as per PTI.
A huge crowd gathered on both sides of the road from Assumption Junction to Chungam Junction in Sultan Bathery.
He further told the people that the people of Wayanad had taught him the word love has a great place in politics. "I did not use that word, but the people of Wayanad taught me that the word has a great place in politics," he was quoted by PTI. The Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha also stated that love and affection are the only weapons to combat hatred and anger.
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra marked her political debut after she signed her nomination papers for the upcoming Lok Sabha bypoll in Wayanad. Gandhi, along with her brother and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, held a mega roadshow in Kalpetta before filing her nomination.
Wayanad, a Congress stronghold, will see a contest between Priyanka Gandhi of Congress, Navya Haridas of the BJP, and Sathyan Mokeri of the Left alliance in the upcoming by-polls. If Priyanka Gandhi wins from Wayanad, she will be the third person from the Gandhi family to enter Parliament.
The election was necessitated after Rahul Gandhi vacated the seat, choosing to retain Rae Bareli following his victory in both constituencies in the general elections earlier this year. The by-election for the Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency is scheduled for November 13.
