Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam To Boycott Erode East Bypoll After AIADMK, BJP
Earlier, Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam also boycotted Vikravandi bypoll held last year.

Actor-turned-politician Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam announced its decision on Friday to boycott Erode (East) bypoll set to be held on Feburary 5. The by-election to the seat was necessitated after the death of sitting MLA and senior Congress leader EVKS Elangovan last month.
Making the announcement, TVK General Secretary N Anand said, "Past history has made us realize that in Tamil Nadu usually ruling government will use full muscle power, without following democratic principles, to win bypoll. Based on this TVK will boycott the Erode (East) bypoll similar to Vikravandi bypoll. Also no support to any party"

Earlier, AIADMK, DMDK and BJP also announced their decisions to boycott the polls.
The contest for the Erode East by-poll is primarily between DMK candidate V.C. Chandhirakumar and NTK candidate M.K. Seethalakshmi. Initially, the Congress was expected to field a candidate since the seat was allocated to them within the DMK alliance. However, DMK later decided to contest the election.
In an official statement last week, DMK President and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin announced that the party had made the decision after consulting with its alliance partner, Congress. He confirmed that DMK's policy propaganda joint secretary, V.C. Chandhirakumar, would be the INDIA bloc's candidate for the Erode East by-poll.
On Friday, TNCC President K. Selvaperunthagai stated that the Congress had unanimously agreed to let DMK contest the by-poll on behalf of the INDIA bloc.
This marks the second by-poll in four years for the Erode East assembly constituency.
