UP Election 2022: Two Arrested For Firing At Asaduddin Owaisi's Convoy In Meerut

Superintendent of Police Hapur, Deepak Bhuker also informed that the attack on AIMIM chief was instigated by Owaisi's "anti-Hindu satements."

New Delhi: Uttar Pradesh police has arrested two persons in connection with the firing incident on All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi. On Thursday Owaisi had alleged that shots were fired at his car while returning to Delhi from election campaigning in poll-bound Uttar Pradesh.

"Two persons have been arrested firing at AIMIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi's convoy while he was returning to Delhi after campaigning in Uttar Pradesh. The investigation is underway," said Superintendent of Police Hapur, Deepak Bhuker to news agency ANI.

Bhuker also informed that the attack on AIMIM chief was instigated by Owaisi's "anti-Hindu satements."

According to Owaisi miscreants had fired three to four rounds of bullets upon his vehicle near Chhajarsi toll plaza while he was heading back to Delhi from his election campaign in Kithaur district in Meerut.

"Bullets were fired on my vehicle near Chhajarsi toll plaza. Four rounds were fired. There were three-four people, all of them fled leaving behind the weapon on the scene. My vehicle got punctured, but I left from there in another vehicle. We are all safe," Owaisi wrote on his Twitter handle in Hindi.

Owaisi is going to take up the matter of security breach and attack on his vehicle to the Parliament on Friday, reported ANI. He is also going to write a letter to the Election Commission of India raising the concern.

Assembly election in Uttar Pradesh will be held in seven phases from February 10 to March 7. Counting of votes for the 403 assembly seats will be held on March 10.
