UP Election 2022: Congress Releases Third List Of 89 Candidates, Including 37 Women

The party has committed to providing 40% of the seats in this year's Uttar Pradesh election to female candidates, which is reflected in the third list.

New Delhi: The Congress party on Wednesday released its third list of candidates for the upcoming assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh. Out of the total 89 candidates on this list, 37 are women.

The party has committed to providing 40% of the seats in this year's Uttar Pradesh election to female candidates, which is reflected in the third list.

Some of the candidates named in the third list are Randhir Singh contesting the polls from Nakur, Sandeep Rana from Saharanpur, Raahat Khalil from Deoband, Subhash Chandra Verma from Aliganj, among others.

Amongst the 37 women candidates, Poonam Kamboj is contesting elections from Behat, Akbari Begum from Bijnor, Bala Devi Saini from Noorpur, Saroj Devi from Hathras-SC, etc.

Earlier, Congress had released its second list of 41 candidates for the assembly election which included 16 women.

After being out of power in Uttar Pradesh for over 30 years, Congress is hoping to make a return with a focus on women's empowerment and welfare.

The Congress' campaign is being directed by general secretary Priyanka Gandhi, who launched the campaign slogan 'Ladki Hoon, Lad Sakti Hoon,' which has become a battle cry for the party in the poll-bound state. Gandhi issued a women-centric manifesto in December of last year, which featured pledges like a 40% quota in government positions and free transportation on state-run buses, among other things.

Aside from the aforementioned issues, Congress is also concerned with the condition of education, security, self-sufficiency, and health in poll-bound Uttar Pradesh.
