'The Sooner, The Better': Nitish Kumar Bats For Early Lok Sabha Elections Ahead Of Oppn Meet

Addressing an event in the state capital, Nitish Kumar urged the officials to complete the slated projects as soon as possible as the general elections could be rescheduled.

New Delhi: Ahead of the Opposition meeting in Patna on June 23, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Wednesday advocated for an “early” Lok Sabha elections that are scheduled to be held next year. Addressing an event in the state capital, he urged the officials to complete the slated projects as soon as possible as the general elections could be rescheduled.

Nitish Kumar made the remarks while speaking at an event to lay the foundation stone and inaugurate some development schemes for the state.

“I was told during the department’s review meeting that all projects would be completed by January 2024. I will request you all to complete all projects as soon as possible. Nobody knows when the Lok Sabha polls will be held. It is not necessary that Lok Sabha elections will be held next year only. It is possible that it may be held before time,” he said, hinting at an early election.

“The sooner it is finished the better it is. And also give a clear message to the public about the work done by the state government. I will be happy if the work is completed early,” he added.

Responding to Nitish Kumar’s call for an early election, RJD leader Mrityunjay Tiwari said, “Nitish Kumar has a long political experience. He must have a reason for saying that Lok Sabha elections might be held early.”

The Opposition meeting, that was earlier scheduled to be held on June 12, aims to create the framework for a coalition of like-minded Opposition parties to challenge Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP administration at the Centre.

However, the meeting was postponed when key Opposition leaders, including Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, stated they were unable to attend on June 12, citing previous commitments and preoccupations.
