Punjab Polls | Candidate Selection Meet Inconclusive As Sidhu & CM Channi's Clash Continues: Sources

Punjab Polls 2022: The CEC meeting for the second list for the upcoming Punjab Assembly elections remained inconclusive due to Navjot Singh Sindhu and CM Channi.

Chandigarh: After releasing its first list of 86 candidates for the upcoming Punjab Assembly elections, the Congress Chief Election Committee meeting for the second list was held on Saturday which remained inconclusive due to the difference of opinion between Punjab Congress Chief Navjot Singh Sindhu and Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, said sources.

The Sonia Gandhi-headed Central Election Committee (CEC) was scheduled to announce the list of remaining 31 party candidates for the upcoming Punjab polls today but ended without any result.

The sources also said, "Party has formed a sub-committee to discuss the party candidates for the remaining 31 seats. The committee consists of Congress General Secretary organisation KC Venugopal, senior leader Ambika Soni and chairman of Congress Screening Committee of Punjab Ajay Maken".

Meanwhile, Sindhu on Saturday announced that his party will create jobs and aims to set up 10 industrial and 13 food processing clusters in the state.

"Punjab model aims at 10 industrial and 13 food processing clusters. We'll transform Mohali into an IT hub & startup city. We see Mohali as silicon valley of North India. I'll invite Elon Musk (Tesla owner) to Punjab & create the biggest EV industry in Ludhiana: Navjot Singh Sidhu," said Sidhu to ANI.

While showering his praise on former Prime Minister of India, Manmohan Singh, Sidhu emphasized creating employment opportunities in poll-bound state Punjab.

He said, "Employment is the most important issue in the upcoming elections. We will create skill-oriented entrepreneurship in the state and connect it to sports. The Punjab model is an inspiration of Manmohan Singh Ji's approach to development."

Punjab will witness polling for 117 seats of the state on February 20 and counting of votes will occur on March 10.
