Punjab Election: Congress Releases 3rd List Of 8 Candidates, CM Channi To Contest From Two Seats

Punjab Elections 2022: Punjab chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi has been given a second ticket from Bhadaur apart from the Chamkaur Sahib seat, ANI reported.

New Delhi: Congress party has released its third list of 8 candidates for the upcoming Punjab Assembly election. The grand old party has now announced candidates for 117 seats. 

Notably, Punjab chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi will fight the election from the Bhadaur seat along with Chamkaur Sahib, ANI reported.

Some of the other candidates named in the third list are Sukhpal Singh Bhular contesting the polls from Kheem Karan, Manish Bansal from Barnala, Vishnu Sharma from Patiala, among others.

Kejriwal Claims CM Charanjit Singh Channi Will Lose The Elections

After the Congress party released its third list of candidates for the upcoming Punjab Assembly elections on Sunday, revealing that Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi will run in two electorates, Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal said that his party's poll had already predicted that the Chief Minister would lose the election and that the fact that he will run in two seats proves the poll.

Taking to Twitter, AAP Chief said, "I had said that according to our survey, Channi Ji is losing from Chamkaur Sahib. Today Congress has announced that it will contest from two seats. Does this mean the survey is true?"

The voting in Punjab will take place in one phase on February 20 (Monday). The date of the election was changed from February 14 to 20 as a lot of people from the Scheduled Caste (SC) community, about 32% of the population of Punjab, usually visit Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh to celebrate Guru Ravidas Birth Anniversary. Devotees from Punjab will visit Varanasi from February 10 to 16 to celebrate Guru Ravidas Birth Anniversary.

The counting of votes will take place on March 10, 2022 (Thursday).

Punjab Legislative Assembly Schedule:

1.      Date of Notification: 25th January 2022 (Tuesday)

2.      Last date of Nomination: 1st February 2022 (Tuesday)

3.      Date of Scrutiny: 2nd February 2022 (Wednesday)

4.      Date of Withdrawal: 4th February 2022 (Friday)

5.      Date of Poll: 20th February 2022 (Sunday).
