Shiv Sena's Shaina NC Fails To Break Congress MLA Amin Patel's Winning Streak In Mumbadevi

Mumbadevi Assembly seat was held by the BJP until 2009, after which the grand old party wrested it. Since then, Congress's Amin Patel has won thrice from the seat in 2009, 2014, and 2019.

Mumbadevi Election Result 2024: The Mumbadevi Assembly constituency witnessed a high-stakes battle as three-time MLA and seasoned Congress leader Amin Patel was vying to retain power for the fourth time in a row. He was up against former Bharatiya Janata Party leader Shaina NC, a young candidate fielded by the ruling Mahayuti alliance. Shaina NC, who contested on a Shiv Sena ticket, lost the seat to the Congress leader, who has won thrice from Mumbadevi in 2009, 2014, and 2019.

As per the Election Commision data, Amin Patel has secured 69,901 votes till now and is leading against Shaina NC with 35,152 votes. The Shiv Sena leader has bagged 34,749 votes as of 15 out of 18 rounds.

Mumbadevi Assembly seat was held by the BJP until 2009, after which the grand old party wrested it. Since then, it has been held by the Congress. This time, the Mahayuti alliance placed its bets on Shaina NC to win the seat. The designer-turned-politician is banking on her image as a strong and "non-controversial" and "non-corrupt" woman leader, who has worked for the empowerment of the women of Mumbai's red-light district, Kamathipura. 

About Mumbadevi Assembly Constituency

Mumbadevi is one of the 288 Assembly constituencies in Maharashtra, located in the Mumbai-Thane region. It is part of the Mumbai South Lok Sabha constituency, which comprises of five other assembly constituencies, including Shivadi, Worli, Byculla, Colaba, and Malabar Hill. The reservation status of this constituency is general.

According to the Election Commission, there were a total of 2,41,959 registered voters in Mumba Devi Assembly constituency for the 2024 Assembly election. These included 1,29,639 males, 1,12,311 female, and nine third gender. In 2019, there were 1,08,343 voters in the Mumbadevi constituency, of which 61,239 were male and 47,005 were female voters. 

The constituency is said to have a significant Muslim voter base, which was the reason behind Patel's second victory, given his long-standing ties with the community. Patel has been successfully retaining the support of the Muslim community for the past three terms, for which a lot of hardwork was needed on Shaina's part to change dynamics. 

In 2019, Congress's Amin Patel had won the seat with a margin of 23,674 votes against Shiv Sena's Pandurang Ganpat Sankalp. Patel bagged 58,952 votes with 54.87% vote share against Sakpal, who won 35,297 votes with 32.85% vote share. 

The Assembly elections at the Mumbadevi seat were held on November 20, 2024. The results were announced on November 23.
